Successful Scaffolding for New Builds

Adactus Timber Frame Chorley 002

There is a worrying lack of social housing in the UK and so it was with great pleasure that the Mitchell's Scaffolding team were able to facilitate the building of six new properties of this type. The project took place in nearby Chorley and required that a carefully-planned, bespoke scaffolding structure be put in place.

The project began as nothing more than three empty plots, each of which was to be the site of two brand-new semi-detached homes; all of the new properties was to be built using a timber-frame construction. Properties built using bricks require that scaffolding be installed in staggered phases to accommodate the bricklayers but, with timber-frame structures, the entire scaffolding structure must be erected at once.

Before any project that we undertake begins, we carry out thorough site inspections and liaise closely with the contractors concerned at in-depth pre-start meetings. One of the key issues that had to be addressed at one of these crucial meetings involved the actual location of the site, which was in close proximity to railway tracks. To ensure that contractors would be safe and that there would be no impediment to the smooth running of train services, we arranged to put additional fencing and brick guards in place.

Our team then built a bespoke, three-level scaffolding structure, which enclosed the first plot on all four sides. We also installed staircases to improve access at each level. As soon as the first scaffold was completed, the team continued to build similar scaffolds around the other two plots. The three scaffolds were linked with bridges, giving contractors the freedom to move safely between them as required.

Next followed the installation of loading bays, themselves followed by the erection of internal scaffolds which allowed contractors to work safely and efficiently on party walls. After some minor alterations to the roofs and checks for water-tightness, the scaffolds were dismantled and removed, completing the job.
